Everyone who is a follower of Jesus is a missionary. For many, if not all of us, that is a scary sounding word. But the truth is that when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior you also accept the responsibility to share the good news of Jesus with those around you. A missionary is a messenger for God.
Here is what we read in Romans 10:14-15 – How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Don’t let the words “missionary,” “sent,” or “preach” scare you. God might be calling you to the rainforests of South America or the villages of Africa, or possibly to move from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, or maybe He is calling you to share His good news closer to home and your “mission field” is in your own household, your workplace, your school, or your neighborhood. God has wired you in a certain way to reach a certain group of people, so wherever God is calling you, He is “sending” you there as a “missionary” to “preach” His good news; the good news of how you have been redeemed and changed by the life and love of Jesus.
